From Bill Plaschke comes news that Vin Scully plans to retire after the 2010 season. Scully, 81, has been the voice of the Dodgers since 1950, when they played in Brooklyn. A Bronx native and a graduate of Fordham University, Scully is beloved throughout baseball, the best at his craft and a giant on radio and television.
Millions of fans know Scully from the “Game of the Week” for NBC in the 1980s. He also called some of the best World Series moments for NBC, including the Bill Buckner game in 1986 and the Kirk Gibson game in 1988. And he did many World Series for CBS Radio, working with Sparky Anderson or Johnny Bench
Toaster loves GaryKeithandRon, but he absolutely adores Mr. Scully.
Toaster is glad that the Mets are playing better. But this news about Mr. Scully has him all upset:

Toaster is having a great time!
We hope you are enjoying all the guest hosts on “Countdown.” I particularly like Howard Dean, but why hasn’t he done the Dean Scream? I like it almost as much as I like the Tarzan yell:
Bwana is still trying to convince Toaster to come home. He even promised Toaster a luxury box at Citi Field, but Toaster far prefers camping out in front of the shrine to Tom Terrific.

Sheila queries:
I see from Bwana’s blog on MLB.Com that he is spending the weekend in Cooperstown for the ‘Baseball Hall Of Fame’ inductions, is Toaster with him?
Bwana took Toaster to Cooperstown; he thought it would be a good way to get the little guy’s mind off the Mets. They had a great time; it was a wonderful Father-Son Bonding Experience. But Toaster parked himself in front of the Tom Seaver exhibit and refuses to leave. He even built a little toast shrine to honor the only player inducted into the Hall as a Met:

The security guards haven’t given him a hard time; they think it’s pretty cute. But the custodial staff is getting tired of cleaning up toast crumbs.
If Bwana doesn’t show up on “Countdown” tonight you’ll know he is still in Cooperstown trying to get Toaster to come home.

Jim Breuer on Being a Mets Fan:
“They suck. It’s like being in love with an alcoholic. It’s like, you constantly defend her, and people are like, ‘Dude, your alcoholic friend is a mess,’ and you’re like, ‘Nah, you don’t know her like I do.’”
10 games out of first!
Half the team on the DL!
Nobody ready down on the farm!

Sheila comments in Hot Toast, Cool Toaster:
It’s nice to see hot and cold appliances getting along.
Blue Velvet adds:
Sheila, I agree.
Toaster thinks that the world would be a better place if humans behaved more like appliances.
Just sayin’ ….

I hope Toaster and his family is enjoying the summer, though I worry about coils overheating in the hot weather.
Not to worry. When Toaster gets too hot he snuggles up next to the air-conditioner. Small appliances like to cuddle with big appliances.

Strong resemblance, eh? They might be cousins ….
